A new open standard wants to track how AI agents use publisher content – not just the request, but whether it influenced the response, got cited, reached the user, and drove engagement. The SPUR Coalition’s Content Telemetry spec is now open for public comment.
- The SPUR Coalition has published a draft open standard called Content Telemetry that tracks how AI agents use publisher content across five stages: retrieved, grounded, cited, displayed, and engaged. The spec is open for public comment until July 10 and is at version 0.1, meaning field names and schema structure may still change before release. The core problem the spec admits but does not yet solve: grounding and citation events are self-reported by the agent, which may also be the party that owes payment, and signing would only prove who filed a report, not whether it is accurate or complete.
