Everything’s happening at once

Anthropic is releasing Claude 4, Karen Hao’s book “Empire of AI” is out, and Google’s showing off the future of search at I/O.

Claude 4? Are you kidding?

“I understand the surprise! Yes, this is Claude Sonnet 4 from the Claude 4 model family.”

My first attempts to send Claude 4 on research tasks with extended reasoning were okay-ish. When it comes to coding, 3.7 has already been a big help, so that’s what I’ll try next. Beta testers are totally thrilled—no surprise there.

Empire of AI, huh?

In contrast to the simultaneously released Sam Altman biography “The Optimist”, neither the founder nor the company contributed to “Empire of AI”. On the contrary, after an initial critical story a few years ago, Karen Hao ended up on their blacklist.

Hao writes about how Sam Altman willed OpenAI into existence with his networking skills and how much it all depends on Musk, Thiel, Gates, and other men. I’m only 10% in, and I’m already hooked.

The future of search?

It’s called AI Mode, and it’s available for beta testing in the states. It looks even more like a chatbot, think Perplexity. At Google’s I/O conference, AI Mode was hailed as the future of search, and that more and more features would appear in regular search. There is a 10 minute supercut of I/O.
